All-American Bowl The 2009 U.S. Army National Combine was contested on January 2nd, the day before the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, in the Alamodome in San Antonio. The combine featured 525 of the nation’s top sophomore and junior football prospects and introduced an array of groundbreaking technologies that Athletic Republic debuted on this national stage: Video of each athlete’s effort was recorded, including integrated time or score. Athletic Republic Vice President, Tanya Porter gave the statement some scale when she said, “We uploaded more than 3000 Dartfish video clips to our Web site within an hour of the event’s completion, with each individual test organized in files for each athlete.” The new timing system Athletic Republic developed with its partners lent credibility to this new standard in electronic timing. We introduced RFID (radio frequency identification) scanning as a more efficient way to manage athlete data. Chief Science and Technology officer, Steve Swanson, explained the significance of this advancement by stating, “The result is the elimination of manual data collection, organization and reporting, while allowing each athlete’s skill test to be indexed or ranked through our AIMS Web interface.” Vertical jump and maximum height were recorded with a Vertec as athletes jumped from an Athletic Republic force plate to measure their power. Now linemen or larger players who look to improve their explosive power have a comparable data point calculated in watts, or even horsepower, based on their jump. Rivals.com was so impressed with our performance that their National Recruiting Editor, Jeremy Crabtree, called it “ . . .the best combine I have ever attended.” For more details view the Rivals.com story here. |
