Hockey Training

At Athletic Republic, our science-based Hockey Training is divided into several different program offerings to meet the demands of the athlete and their training and competition schedule. Programs are separated into pre-season, in-season team training and off-season programs, and include training camps and holiday clinics. In all the programs, each athlete is tested at periodic intervals to track their progress.

Hockey Acceleration Training: Pre-Season/Post-Season

Athletic Republic’s most complete program develops the dedicated hockey player’s speed, skill, power and agility, whether it’s in the spring preparing for tryouts or in summer gearing up for the coming season. The 6-8 week Hockey Acceleration Training program focuses on power, movement skills and skating efficiency, while building dynamic stability on the ice. The program begins with a pre-test to assess strength and weakness to optimize each athlete’s training program. Our industry-leading Athlete Information Management System [AIMS] allows both the athlete and trainer to track improvement to monitor goal achievement.

The athlete completes 18 training sessions three times per week. Twelve sessions incorporate the Hockey Treadmill and focus on creating greater stride length, stride frequency and improved anaerobic conditioning for hockey. The other six plyometric sessions increase first-step quickness, core stability and overall explosiveness. Each training session incorporates skill and stick-handling development. The program concludes with a post-program performance evaluation, and all sessions include flexibility drills and dynamic warm-up.

20 sessions 20-30 total hours of training

  • 1 Pre-test / 1 Post-Test
  • 12 Hockey Treadmill speed, strength and stability sessions (utilizing other proprietary equipment as needed to augment the athlete’s skill set
  • 6 Plyometric sessions including the Republic Box and slide board
  • 18 skill development and stick-handling sessions

In-Season Conditioning

Athletic Republic’s exclusive in-season training program improves hockey players’ capabilities in just 11 once-a-week, 90-minute sessions. Athletes increase their stride length, stride frequency and overall anaerobic conditioning for hockey on our patented Hockey Treadmill. Plyometrics develop dynamic stability, lower body strength, first-step quickness and explosive power. Stick-handling speed and accuracy is also part of this program, training athletes to improve shot velocity, range of motion and confidence with the puck.

11 sessions [90 minutes per session]: 31.5 total hours of training
Training resembles the Team Training model, but in a small group setting with greater scheduling freedom and training session flexibility.

Each session is broken into three periods of play:

  • 1st - Hockey Treadmill training [30 minutes]
  • 2nd - Plyometrics for improved strength, power and dynamic stability [30 minutes]
  • 3rd - Skill and stick-handling development [30 minutes]
  • All sessions include a dynamic warm-up and flexibility training

Training Camps and Holiday Clinics

Athletic Republic offers an introduction or tune-up program for every athlete through its camp and clinic training.

Examples:

  • Two-week PowerPlay Training: Ten Athletic Republic training center sessions, combined with a camp’s on-ice instruction, skill development, tactical play, position-specific placement and small-ice game.
  • One-week BreakAway Training: Five Athletic Republic training center sessions, combined with a camp’s game strategy, on-ice instruction and competition.

Learn-2-Skate

Athletic Republic helps young hockey players take that first stride. That’s why we have one of the most comprehensive learn-to-skate programs in the industry. We take athletes through a series of eight 60-minute Hockey Treadmill sessions in a completely safe and fully monitored environment to teach them the fundamentals of skating. Our Learn-2-Skate program emphasizes balance, control and proper skating mechanics while athletes are safely harnessed on our patented Hockey Treadmill. One of our trainers is constantly at hand, providing encouragement and giving feedback as the athlete masters the treadmill. Our trainers ensure that proper skating mechanics are learned before transferring to the ice. In addition, athletes can view themselves on the live-delay, flat-screen monitor, positioned above the control box or reflected in the mirror in front of them.

  • Eight 60-minute sessions
  • Training sessions are station-based, organized for small groups and conducted during morning hours

Each session is broken into three phases:

  • Warm-up, stability and body awareness [10 minutes]
  • Hockey Treadmill [40 minutes]
  • Balance and flexibility [10 minutes]

Professional Program

Many rink complexes host NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL and Major Junior hockey programs that utilize Athletic Republic’s speed, strength, skill and agility training during morning and afternoon hours, which allows the center to optimize hours of operation for the arena’s entire hockey clientele.
